Intercepting credit card
information on the internet is not easy to do.
When shopping with
Ozpond via E-way secure shopping, all personal and credit card details
are encrypted using 1024 bit SSL
certificate so
that no-one can intercept or tamper with your information as it passes
over the internet. It's exactly the same as using your credit card at an
EFPOS terminal at a store which communicates your personal details over a
phone line to the bank computers.
Industry-standard Secure
Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption is a process by which we use software to
scramble sensitive information while it is in transit to E-way secure
shopping. You must use Internet Explorer or Netscape for this
encryption to work as these internet browsers encrypt your information and
the E-way secure shopping computers decode the information. The
credit card details are kept on file for a limited time to action the
sale, then deleted automatically by E-way secure shopping
Unlike the transactions made regularly with the same retailer where they
have kept your details on record and risks them being stolen and used
fraudulently.
(That is why you need to
provide us with your credit card details each time you order).
Most internet fraud is
committed against the retailer NOT the consumer.
That is, a credit card
number is stolen by other means (eg. wallet stolen or credit card swiped)
then used online. Fortunately, most credit card holders are
protected from the fraudulent use of their cards or at least have limited
responsibility for the fraudulent purchased made (say, $50 maximum).
The remainder of the fraudulent purchase is either paid for by the banks,
insurance companies or the retailer that accepted the fraudulent order.
